Photographer, artist, promoter and gallery owner, Michael Judge has led a whirlwind life. He’s had two near-death experiences, sold millions of dollars worth of art, faced down a bogus multi-million dollar law suit, and created memorable visual images that have been seen throughout the world. In the course of his many careers, he’s rubbed shoulders with movie stars, U.S. Presidents, Mafiosi, wealthy globetrotters, world-renowned artists, art forgers, truckers, cowboys, waitresses and salt-of-the-earth people in Europe and America.
In the late 1960s he was the deejay at the hottest night club in Los Angeles. He helped build and run a horse trotting and greyhound-racing track on the island of Ibiza in Spain. As the first American photographer allowed to take pictures behind the iron curtain in Poland, he witnessed Solidarity begin its struggle against Communism. In the 1990s, he was the first to sell museum grade art on cruise ships, single-handedly inventing many of the procedures used to this day. |

At the same time, a mystical thread has run through his life, beginning with two near-death experiences Michael had as a teenager and in the U.S. Army. They and subsequent spiritual encounters have shaped his art as much as his life. Indeed, art, photography and spirituality became touchstones he turned to in times of difficulty.
In Captured Horizons, Michael writes about his many loves and adventures with verve and energy, much as he has lived his life. Whether he’s describing his often stormy relationships with women, reminiscing about working with mobsters in Miami, or exposing the process by which new “genius” artists are created, he tells it all with refreshing honesty. Unafraid to tread on others’ toes, he does not spare himself either, refusing to sugarcoat his own shortcomings.
What emerges is the journey of a complex man and artist who is never afraid of reinventing himself. The book features a generous selection from Michael’s extensive portfolio, including the spiritually inspired “Light Paintings” and the “Back Roads of America” series – the result of crisscrossing the United States more than 30 times. The images show a range and diversity which not only capture, but expand our horizons. |
